One of the most common mistakes people make is thinking if there is a God and they live a decent life they’ll get into Heaven. That’s a lie from the enemy. Compared to God who is holy, righteous, and blameless. We are all filthy wretched sinners (Rom 3:23). Every one of us at some point in our lives has lied, stolen something, had lustful thoughts, committed idolatry (putting anything before God), gossiped, or lived with a sense of pride. That makes us guilty before God.
Knowing that we would always fall short, God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for our sins (Rom 5:8). It’s a gift from God that we must receive in faith with a heart of repentance. Biblical repentance is a sincere turning away from self to God. We must be truly sorry for our actions. It’s when we cry out to God by asking for forgiveness from the bottom of our heart, believe Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for our sins. That’s when Jesus steps in as the perfect, sinless sacrifice and saves us from eternal destruction. It has nothing to do with our works and everything to do with the love and grace of Christ (Eph 2:8). From that moment on the Bible says we’re a new creation and are now children of God (2Cor 5:17). He becomes our Heavenly Father and we start a personal relationship with the one true living God!
There are a lot of benefits for you when God becomes your Father. Here are a few: His protection and strength (Josh 1:9), His guidance and wisdom (Psalm 32:8), a detailed plan for your life (Jer 29:11), His unconditional love (1 John 4:16), His unmerited grace (Eph 1:6), spiritual gifts to encourage others (1 Cor 12:4), the power of the Holy Spirit (Mic 3:8), victory over sin (1Jon 1:9), a transformed life (Eze 36:26), a peace of mind that transcends all understanding (Isa 26:3), and most importantly eternal salvation! To say the least, God takes care of His children. Jesus loves you more than you can imagine and is waiting for you to come to Him in faith (Jon 3:16).
To start a personal relationship with God, pray:
Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I’m truly sorry for my actions. I believe you died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for my sins. Right now, I confess you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me and giving me eternal life. I surrender my life to you. Help me to get to know You personally through Your Word. Please teach me the right way to live while giving me the courage to follow you all the days of my life. Amen.
If you trusted Jesus for the first-time congratulations! You now have eternal salvation and have been blessed with the Holy Spirit (Rom 10:9)! It’s the most important decision you’ve ever made. Now, there is work to do. You must get to know Jesus personally. Saturate yourself in the Word of God. Start in the New Testament. Actively remove sin from your life. Find a Bible based church. Pray daily. Love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. Love and lead others to Christ!
“Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching.” JESUS
